Musical Minis is a registered trade mark and has been operating since 1989 in North West London. It was established so that pre-school children (from as young as six months) could enjoy and participate in music at an early stage in their development. Its format was created by Karen Sherr and Patricia Elson. Karen, who has an Honours Degree in Psychology, was a play specialist at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. Patricia is a nursery school Head Teacher with over seventeen years experience. Having developed the basic idea, they went on to devise a package where music and story-telling combine.
Karen and Rob Sherr have three children. Rob is a bank manager specialising in corporate lending to media related companies. Karen graduated from Warwick University in 1984. She used her psychology degree to good effect on the cardiac wards of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, where she was a play specialist. Karen left GOSH just before her eldest child was born. Musical Minis was established in 1989 when Karen could not find a music group which catered for young children.
Pat and Roy Elson have two grown up children. Roy is a recently retired company secretary of a training company who continues acting as a management consultant. Pat took up nursery work some 27 years ago, following a career in graphic art. She is now the head of a nursery school she set up on behalf of a preparatory school. Pat is also involved in teaching drama to children.
Karen invited Pat to partner her in Musical Minis after seeing her involvement with a children's group. The partnership has been running successfully for over ten years.
Musical Minis franchisees are selected carefully for their child-centred rather than music-centred approach to running groups. In consequence, we have found that mothers with young children have found Musical Minis to be an ideal business opportunity.
